Ma’amoul

Ingredients:

Dough:

  • 6 cups farina (3 cups fine white & 3 cups fine yellow)
  • 2 cups melted butter or ghee
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 envelope yeast
  • 1/2 cup rose water
  • 1/2 cup orange blossom

Filling:

Nuts:

  • 2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup rose water

Dates:

  • 1 package chopped dates
  • 1 teaspoon oil

Directions:

  1. Mix farina with sugar and butter
  2. Cover and let sit on counter for at least 12 hours
  3. Add rose water, orange blossom and yeast in a separate bowl
  4. Slowly add liquid to dry mixture making sure to fully incorporate
  5. Let mixture rest for an hour while filling is prepared
  6. Mix filling ingredients by hand
  7. Form dough into a golf ball sized shape
  8. Make cavity in center of ball and place in mold
  9. Add 1 tbsp of nuts or dates filling to opening and close
  10. Bake for 30 – 40 minutes at 300 degrees
  11. Sprinkle with powdered sugar once it cools and serve
