Chapati Bread

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups (500 ml) all purpose or bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup ghee or neutral oil (plus additional for spreading)
  • 1 1/4 cups (approx. 280 ml) warm water

Instructions:

  1. In stand mixer, add water, ghee, sugar, salt and mix well, slowly add flour to incorporate
  2. Knead to form a soft and sticky dough (about 5 minutes)
  3. Divide dough into 6 or 8 pieces and let it rest for 30 minutes
  4. Using a rolling pin, roll out dough into a circle.
  5. Roll the dough like you would a yoga mat and then coil it
  6. When all the dough has been coiled up , cover the dough with a damp cloth and let them rest for 20 minutes.
  7. Gently flatten out coiled dough and roll out. Begin rolling out the dough from the center working outwards.
  8. Rotate the dough out each time you roll it, this helps to make a perfect circle.
  9. Place dough in oiled pan.
  10. Heavily oil the other side of the dough making sure you oil the edges too.
  11. Cook for about 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  12. Serve warm.
